According to comScore, worldwide internet searches increased 41% during the month of July 2009 over the previous year, reaching 113 billion searches (up from 80 billion).  Google accounts for about two-thirds of the searches, in increase of 58% year over year.  Regionally, Europe has the highest number of searches  (32.1), with Latin America showing the highest number of searches per searcher (130.4).  North America accounts for 22.1% of searches and shows an average of 110.6 searches per searcher.

Interestingly, the total time on Facebook increased by nearly 700% year over year in 2008, according to Neilson, rising to 13.9 billion minutes in April, 2008.  Neilson also notes that social networking sites can quickly fall from favor, though, and that much of Facebook’s gains came at MySpace’s expense.  By 2010,  FaceBook boasted almost 500 million users.
